H5 One way to Oxford – why not use the towpath all
the way to Oxford. It’s rough in places but passable and
you get unrivalled glimpses of kingfishers, heron and
other waterfowl along the way… then just jump on the
train for a well earned rest on the way home! About 3
hours non-stop… why not call in at Thrupp Wharf along
the way for refreshments*.
from thrupp:
t1
Blenheim Palace and Woodstock are just 20 minutes
away by bike… leaving you lots of time to perhaps
detour to Sir Winston Churchill’s grave at nearby Bladon,
or the Bus Museum at Hanborough.
t2 It’s got to be Oxford... and the easiest, safest way
to get there is along the towpath – about an hour into
Oxford… then use your bike to get around the colleges
and city for free!
t3 Head north up the towpath past the deserted village
of Hampton Gay, and on to the Rock of Gibraltar.
Another mile or so along the towpath brings you to
Pigeons Lock where you can join the track up to the old
quarry (country park - full of fossils) and into Kirtlington.
Choose to return now, or explore towards Heyford
Wharf – perhaps stop there for a snack/cream tea!
