reCoMMendations
We’ve a great range of routes from Heyford
and Thrupp Wharves, most of which involve
only minor roads or paths, including the canal
towpath in places. Feel free to use the map overleaf, or
buy an OS map when you arrive… a special leaflet is
also available from Cherwell District Council that outlines
the Cherwell Valley Cycle Ride which passes close to
Lower Heyford. Sustrans Route 5 from Oxford toward
the Midlands is also close at hand and forms much of
our recommended route into Oxford from Thrupp – the
majority being along the canal towpath.
soMe reCoMMendations:-
from Heyford:
H1
Blenheim Palace and Woodstock are a one hour ride
across country lanes and cycleways.
H2 A lovely circular route via Tackley, the Canal at
Pigeons Lock, the old quarry at Kirtlington, perhaps
a pub stop at the Oxford Arms before returning takes
about 2 hours non-stop – but is lovely for a day out.
H3 Do the full Cherwell Cycle Route – it takes about
four hours but there’s lots to look at along the route, and
good pubs to call at for refreshments.
H4 Head across to Steeple Aston, North Aston, Somerton
and back via Upper Heyford - a leisurely 2 hr ride – but
a few hills!
