Seasonal food production
Over the last year we have been working with our growers to find ways to successfully grow
crops not common to our shores, such as melons, apricots and sugar snap peas. Several
of these new fruit and vegetables are now being grown here in the UK and sold in our stores.
Through the success of these trials you will see more over the coming months.
We are also trying to extend the UK season of many crops. We have had great results with
UK asparagus using a combination of new varieties and growing techniques, which last year
added an extra six weeks to the season. This enabled us to sell 100% UK asparagus from
April to June, the longest period of any UK retailer. Another success is British flowers which
we now sell all year round.
