The Senior School
Activities and Excursions
As a new member of our community you will quickly discover that school life extends
well beyond the classroom and that there are many exciting opportunities to be
grasped. Some of these are part of the school day, such as games and sport but we
also offer a voluntary after-school activities programme with a huge variety of options
from salsa dancing to soccer, from Italian to cookery, from current affairs to editing the
school’s newspaper.
Joining the CCF (Army, Navy or RAF section) will open up a new range of exciting
challenges and experiences, including sailing, wind-surfing and flying experience. There
are regular field days, and annual camps - at Easter (Adventurous Training in Scotland)
and in the summer.
You might add your name to the growing list of Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
winners or help to organise a World Challenge expedition to a far-flung corner of the
Geography field trip to Iceland
globe.
You may also find yourself touring with a sports team as far afield as Australia or the
Bahamas or improving your language skills nearer to home in Europe.
Additionally, in order to complement work done in the classroom, many academic
departments organise their own outings, such as visits to art galleries and the annual
Classics excursion to nearby Hadrian’s Wall, and you are quite likely to be invited to
join your House group on a cinema or other leisure outing.
