The Senior School
Drama
Durham School Drama enjoys a long and distinguished tradition and today is
centred at our own Luce Theatre, a versatile space with excellent technical
provision.
Here we regularly stage school productions ranging from large scale musicals,
such as Godspell and Les Misérables, to classic plays including The Crucible
and The Comedy of Errors. Outdoor productions exploit to great advantage the
natural performance spaces in our beautiful grounds.
As a younger pupil you will find that Drama is part of your curriculum but you
will also be encouraged to participate in drama outside the classroom. Large
numbers take part in our regular junior and senior productions and in House
Drama events, while others prefer to help out backstage with set-building,
“Godspell”
lighting and sound. Who knows where your next performance may lead - a place
at the National Youth Theatre, a scholarship to Drama School or even appearing
in the West End?
You will also be able to take part in workshops and join our regular visits to the
theatre. We are very fortunate to have Durham’s Gala Theatre on our doorstep
and also to be so close to top-class theatres in Newcastle, Darlington and
Sunderland.
