The Senior School
Music
Opportunities for making music at Durham School are unrivalled and our
nationwide reputation for excellence in Music is well deserved.
You will find that music plays a significant part in the life of our school - both daily
in our chapel and in a wide range of musical events and concerts.
Our Music School is home to a studio theatre, a small concert room, seven
individual teaching and practice rooms and a music technology facility containing
13 midi workstations.  Tuition is available on any musical instrument and you will
be given expert guidance to help you to build your confidence and a vast array of
opportunities to show off your new skills.
Durham Schoolʼs prize-winning Big Band
Barely a week goes by without a musical event of one form or another taking place:
from the Chapel Choir singing at Durham Cathedral to the Senior Orchestra
performing in Barcelona, from ‘Durham School’s Got Talent’ to the hugely popular
annual House Music Competition.
With so many opportunities to play in orchestras, concerts, jazz bands, rock
groups, ceilidh bands and choirs of all sizes, it is not surprising that over a third of
all pupils in the entire school either sing or learn a musical instrument or both.
