The Senior School
The Sixth Form
Our Old Dunelmians tell us that their time in Durham School Sixth Form provided an
excellent preparation for the transition to full independence either within Higher
Education or in the world of work.
Each year a significant number of students join us in the Sixth Form from other
schools and find that they settle quickly into our friendly community.
With A Levels on the horizon this will be a demanding time, but your tutor, the Head
of Sixth Form and the Deputy Head (Curriculum) will give you plenty of expert advice
when choosing your Sixth Form subjects and learning to work more independently.
To reflect your growing independence, you'll be given privileges, along with new

responsibilities and opportunities. You'll be encouraged to take on leadership roles
and to develop your organisational and management skills, for example in the choir
and orchestra, drama productions and the Combined Cadet Force. You could become
a House or School Monitor and take on a share in the responsibility for the care of
younger pupils.
As you look ahead to the next stage of your career, we will guide you every step of
the way through your UCAS application so that you stand the best possible chance of
gaining a place at the university or college of your choice.
