The Senior School
Years 9 to 11
Whether you are one of the many pupils who join us in Year 9 from other schools or
whether you are an experienced hand, as a Year 9 pupil you will continue to follow
the same wide range of subjects. As you prepare to decide which ones you would like
to choose for your GCSE options in Year 10, regular advice from us will ensure that,
in consultation with your parents, you can make sound decisions.
Normally we will expect you to study ten subjects for GCSE, although programmes
are carefully adapted to suit the ability of each pupil. Academic progress is carefully
monitored by the Director of Middle School Studies in conjunction with your Form
Tutor and Housemaster or Housemistress; both achievement and improvement are
regularly encouraged and rewarded.
A Year 10 French class
You will discover where your academic strengths lie and you will be supported as you
take your first important examinations. You will also be able to try an even greater
range of new and challenging activities, such as the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke
of Edinburgh Award Scheme or one of our exciting World Challenge expeditions, all
of which you will have the chance to join in Year 9 or Year 10.
