The Senior School
The House System
Whether you are a boarder or a day pupil, you will belong to a House which will be the
focal point of your life at school. Although the School is co-educational, the House you
belong to will be single-sex, so that you will be able to enjoy the best of both worlds.
The five Houses (MacLeod and Pimlico for girls, Caffinites, Poole and School for boys)
all have their own separate building and grounds, with excellent work and leisure
facilities for all pupils. However, your House is much more than just a focus for social
life and tutorials - we want you and your parents to see it as a "home from home".
Each House has a Housemaster or Housemistress, mostly living on site with his or her
family, who is supported by a team of assistant staff, including, in the case of the
boarding Houses, a Matron and a resident House tutor. This House team will look after
your welfare and be in regular contact with your parents.
House staff are always on hand for a chat
The School also has an on-site Medical Centre, which is professionally staffed and open
to both boarders and day pupils in need of medical attention.
As part of this community you will receive the level of support and encouragement you
need, academically, socially and emotionally. You will have opportunities to discuss
important topics facing young people, such as relationships, health and your workload.
Self-discipline and respect for others are expected and, as you move up the School, we
will foster your sense of independence with increasing privileges, freedoms and
responsibilities.
