Freak out with the water cannon, enjoy
the thrill of 85m waterslides, paddle about
in the kiddies play pool, enjoy the Jacuzzi,
or try your hand at a new hi-tech yet
user-friendly six-lane 10 pins bowling
alley. Renovations have created more open
spaces for swimming. Mom and Dad can
also chill out in the steam room and sauna.
Then if you want something less active,
you could wander around the aquarium,
or have a snack in the interesting café. If
you want a bigger meal, Ramore’s, with its
ϐ ǡ
Chinese to pizza-pasta, to more formal
dining, is just a couple of strokes away.
Armagh Planetarium
Get starstruck here. The Planetarium is
part of the Armagh Observatory, a modern
astronomical research institute which
goes back for over 200 years. So while the
children have a lot of fun here, you can be
sure that the planetarium takes its
teaching job seriously. In fact, it runs
several educational programmes, including
an online school astronomy club called
Astrogazers, and highly popular festivals
using its portable Stardome.
The Armagh Planetarium was recently
refurbished, and so is among the best in the
universe. The Digital Theatre, for instance
now has the world's most advanced digital
projection, sound and lighting systems with
purpose-built reclining seats. With Digistar
3, the kids can get a unique, full-colour, 3D
experience projected over the entire dome.
‘Big’ and ‘Sunshine’ are attractions designed
Ǧϐ Ǥ
Actually, there’s much more here than the
Planetarium. You get the once-in-a-lifetime
chance to design, build and even launch
your own rocket made out of a cola bottle
and some other ‘top secret’ parts. Or you
can yourself ‘Shoot into Space’ and ‘journey’
to Mars in the 3D Stereo Room.
In fact children can spend hours going
through the Astropark, a scale model of
the Universe where they can walk through
the solar system and into the Milky Way,
or beyond. The landscaped grounds are
dotted with models of the planets, giving
the kids a fair idea of their own place in
the cosmic scheme of things, including
how small Planet Earth is in comparison
with some of its neighbours.
