Malahide Castle is the imposing centrepiece, set
in  250 acres of parkland in the pretty seaside
town of Malahide. It was both a fortress and
the private home of  generations of the Talbot
family which lived here from way back in
1185 to 1973, when the last Lord Talbot died.
There is beautiful period furniture and some
of the rooms are restored to their past glory.
But children will be more engaged by the
two attractions attached to the castle’s
grounds.
Tara’s Palace (www.visitdublin.com) is
’‡”Šƒ’• ‘‡ ‘ˆ –Ї ™‘”ކ̵• ‘•– •‹‰‹ϐ‹-
cant doll’s houses. It took 10 years to
complete. In exquisite and detailed
one-twelfth scale, it replicates  all the
elegance and  grandeur of three great 18th
century Irish mansions. It includes minia-
ture masterpieces of furniture and
’ƒ‹–‹‰•ǡ ƒ† ‹• ϐ‹ŽŽ‡† ™‹–Š ƒ …‘ŽŽ‡…–‹‘ ‘ˆ
