Imagine going back a couple of centuries,
and travelling with your family through
this beautiful part of the Midlands in a
traditional horse drawn caravan. You get
a day’s training at the expert hands of
Hans & Son at their restored farmhouse
and grounds in the shadow of the
stunning Slieve Bloom mountains. Then,
with the horse as your willing and able
guide, the countryside is yours at a slow
and relaxing pace. The caravan has two
double beds and one bunk with modern
cooking hob. Unhitch for the night at a
designated spot, a country pub or rustic
farmhouse. They will give you an Irish
welcome complete with hot shower,
evening meal and breakfast.

Where else in the world could the children
try their hand at working a sheepdog or
making soda bread? Other activities at this
interactive and child-centric farm include
learning to play the traditional Irish
bodhran drum or dance a jig. More exotica
comes via weaving a sugan rope and
Ǥ ϐ Ǯ
made of snow’, but is actually of straw and
was used to weave the seat of wooden
chairs. Hurling is the 700 year old, some
say pre-historic, Irish favourite, which is
akin to hockey, and considered the world’s
fastest game. You can round off the day
with a traditional meal and music evening.
The kids won’t stop talking about it, or
singing and dancing all the way home.
That’s if they still have any energy left.
